===== Using the LIPS 4 Printer Driver =====

1. Print Job Settings

This printer driver provides various features to specify printer
settings. Refer to the following procedures when performing printer
settings.

To perform print settings from the Printers window:
If you use this method to perform print settings, the settings will
remain in effect for every subsequent print job unless you change
them before the start of every print job by following the procedure
described below under "To perform print settings from the software
application".

1) On the desktop click the Start button, point to Settings, then
    click Printers.

2) Double-click the icon of the printer.

3) From the Printer menu, select Properties and perform the required
    settings.
If you select Printing Preferences from the Printer menu, you can
set up the default settings that will remain in effect for every
print job. In order to perform these settings, you must have full
access rights to the system, i.e. you must be logged on at the
    the system administrator level.

4) When you are finished, click the OK button.

To perform print settings from the software application:

The settings performed using the procedure below are enabled only
for the next print job. The settings are not saved after the
software application is closed.

1) In the software application, start the print job. (For example,
from the File menu select Print.)

2) In the Print dialog box select the name of the printer to use,
    then click the Properties button.

3) Perform the required printer settings.

4) When you are finished, click the OK button.

and then click an item, a explanation of that item appears. When you
click the Help button, information about the printer driver appears.

2. Cautions, Limitations, Restrictions

Note the following limitations when using the printer driver or
printing a document.

Restrictions on Installation

o If you are using a printer via a local connection, some printers
may not allow you to use the Plug & Play installation. If you
install the printer driver with Plug & Play, the Microsoft driver
for the printer will be installed. Please follow the procedure
under "Installing the Printer Driver" below. However, if you use
the Installer to install the printer driver, the Plug & Play Wizard
will open every time you start the computer, so be sure to use the
Add Printer button in the Printers window to install the driver.

o If a Windows NT 4.0 printer driver for LIPS is already installed,
uninstall this printer driver before you install the Windows 2000/
  XP printer driver.

o When you perform the printer installation with the Add Printer
button in the Printers window, a dialog box may open to tell you
that the digital signature cannot be found. In this case, just
click the Yes button and continue with the installation. The
  printer driver is installed normally.

o If the Client is connected via Windows NT 3.51 Server, perform the
installation of the printer driver as Local for a Windows XP
Client, then specify the shared printer on the network and execute
  the print job.

o Do not use this printer driver as a substitute for installing
Windows NT 3.51. If the network includes Windows NT 3.51 Clients,
install the machines as Local Clients with the Windows NT 3.51
installer, then specify the shared printer on the network and
  execute the print job.

o When you are using Novell Client for Windows NT/2000 Ver. 4.71 on a
Client in the NetWare environment, you cannot use NetWare Printer
Manager to install correctly. At the same time, even if the system
is set for the System Administrator to download the printer driver,
the drive cannot be installed correctly. Please install the printer
driver from the Printers folder, or use the LIPS 4 Installer.

o If this printer driver cannot be installed correctly in a NetWare
environment, first remove the old printer driver then install the
new printer driver from the Printers folder with the Add Printer
  icon.

o If you are using NDS (Novell Directory Services) or NDPS (Novell
Distributed Print Services) in a NetWare environment, install the
printer driver from the Printers window. On the desktop click the
Start button, point to Settings, click Printers, then double-click
the Add Printer icon to start the installation. Using the Installer
for the installation may not execute correctly in all cases.

o When the installer is executed by switching the user authority
(i.e. Power User) of the computer, installation cannot be carried
out correctly. In this case, log in to the computer as an
  Administrator, and then install again.

o When using the installer, Microsoft Office may not work correctly
unless the computer is restarted when the message prompting system
restart is displayed. In this case, the computer must be restarted.

Restrictions for Printing

o If you are using form files for overlays, a file location outside
the Windows NT directory cannot be specified for the location of
  the form file created.

o If the software application supports printing multiple copies, you
can perform this setting in either the software application or the
  printer driver.

o When printing with High Quality (Quality> Print Details> Mode
Details> High Quality), the printer executes a portion of the
print job using halftone processing. This may change output
  compared to printing with 1BPP.

o If external and extended characters are specified as printer fonts,
printout results are different from what appears on the monitor.
For these fonts, specify TrueType fonts.

o When setting scaling with an application, make sure the printer
driver scaling is set to 100%.

o Printer fonts cannot be printed when using the Raster Mode
(Quality> Print Details> Graphics Mode> Raster Mode). When
documents with printer fonts specified in LIPS Mode are printed in
Raster Mode, fonts will be replaced by fonts other than printer
  fonts.

o For print jobs using the Substituting TrueType fonts function, the
TrueType fonts on the monitor can be replaced by printer fonts.
When this function is used, printout will differ from what appears
on the monitor. Do not use this function when you want printout the
same as what appears on the monitor.

o When a printer overrun error occurs during printing, do not use
bi-directional support (refer to previous items on settings),
or press the Setup button on the printer, and select: PRINT
  QUALITY> banding> OFF.

o Printing may be interrupted when the "23 DOWNLOAD MEMORY FULL" or
"30 MEMORY FULL" message appears. If this occurs, in the Misc.
sheet in the Details dialog box, click the Use TypeWing off, and
  then print.

o When printing in the AUTO EMULATION mode, the "N201" message may
  appear briefly.

o Some applications have a function for collating. Do not use this
function when specifying 2 Page per Sheet or 4 Page per Sheet in
the Page Layout option in the Page Setup sheet. The layout may not
be set correctly when this function is used with these Page Layout
  options.

o When using Scaling or the 2 Page per Sheet/4 Page per Sheet
functions, an error occurring from the difference between the
degree of scaling and resolution may cause lines and other
distortions to appear in the printout.

o You can use a form file created with the Canon LIPS 3 printer
driver for overlay printing, but the results of the printout
  could be slightly different.

o When Normal is selected as the Overlay Type for overlay printing,
with some form files printing may continue after the last page.

o For some computers, when a print job is cancelled, the next print
job may not print correctly because a reset printer signal is not
sent from the computer. After canceling a print job, always reset
the printer before starting the next print job.

o Some applications may not correctly print lines which are nearly,
but not perfectly, horizontal. If this occurs, re-draw the lines.

o When overlay printing with some applications, form data may not be
printed because the document sent overwrites the previous document.

o For some applications, LIPS Mode may require extra time when
printing. If this occurs, select Raster Mode (Quality> Print
  Details> Graphics Mode> Raster Mode).

o Immediately after installing a printer driver (including upgrades),
some applications may not recognize new functions. For all
applications with a printer setting function, from the File menu
select Printer Settings, and then click the OK button.

o When Raster mode is selected (Quality> Print Details>
Graphics Mode> Raster Mode), fine solid lines may become dotted or
may not print. If this occurs, in the Matching sheet in the
Grayscale Settings dialog box, select Saturation for Matching
  Method, and then print.

o Depending on the system environment (amount of memory available,
etc.), print jobs may be erased when the EMF Spooling check box is
  clicked (Printers folder> File> Properties> Details> Spool
Settings> Spool Data Format). This problem may be solved by
  increasing the computer memory.

o When LIPS Mode is selected (Quality> Print Details> Graphics Mode>
LIPS Mode), if Meta File Spooling is selected (Document Properties
  dialog box> Quality> Print Details> Advanced Settings> EMF
Spooling), this could slow the printing speed. In this case, clear
  the EMF Spooling check box.

o When binder printing with the Microsoft Binder, clear the check box
for executing binder printing as one job. Each print job will be
processed as a separate print job.

o Watermarks cannot be used with Freelance 97.

o When a watermark is selected which has too many letters, or with
letters in very large font sizes, the watermark may not print.

o Watermark text including character code F040 and higher external
  characters will not be printed.

o For some applications, watermarks may print incorrectly for the
  first printing.

o If you are using Flash Buddy, do not register more than seven files.

o Printing may not be possible when using a custom made Profile
with another device because the paper cassette supports a
different paper size. If this occurs, use scaling or change the
  paper cassette.

o When changing the printer name in the Printer dialog box, the
custom Profile settings for the printer driver are deleted.
Before changing the name, save the Profile settings as files and
upload them after changing the printer name.

o When 600 dpi or 1200 dpi is selected in the Quality sheet, data
can be printed in 600dpi or 1200dpi mode. Both the computer and
printer require considerable amount of memory when printing in
600dpi or 1200 dpi mode. When the computer has insufficient memory,
or when many applications are in use, the applications may not
function properly. If this occurs, restart Windows and close any
applications not in use. Also, if the printer is not printing
correctly in the 600 dpi or 1200 dpi mode, lower the resolution.

o When printing color image data (color bitmap) or printing on large
paper sizes, clean output may not be possible because the printer
is operating with insufficient memory. If this occurs, select 300
dpi for the Resolution and use a different printing mode, or add
  printer memory.

o When 600 dpi or 1200 dpi is selected as the Resolution in the
Quality page, and when printing reduced scaling color image data,
1-dot wide lines and points may not print.

o When Transparencies is selected as the Paper Type in the Paper
Source sheet, make sure that Multi-purpose Tray is selected as the
  Paper Source.

o If you are using the printer with the Paper Name selected and
multiple prints selected at "Paper Selection" for "Feed from the
Same Source", the print job may not execute correctly if Rotate
is selected for the Output Method.

o When Divide into Sets is selected for the Booklet Printing Method
in the Detailed Settings of the Booklet Printing dialog box, and
Different for Cover and Others is selected for the Paper Selection
in the Paper Source sheet, the Booklet Printing Method
automatically selects Same Pages for All Pages.

o The operating system environment settings may not be correct for
the network if you are using an older version of the printer
driver, earlier than Ver. 2.xx, with the same shared printer. Make
sure the device selection on the Configuration sheet is correct
before you start the print job.

o With Resolution set for 1200 dpi, print jobs enlarged for printing
on A3, A4, and Ledger paper sizes may not print. If this occurs,
lower the Resolution setting or lower the rate of enlargement.

o Some applications have a function for collating. Do not use this
function when specifying 2 Page per Sheet or 4 Page per Sheet in
the Page Layout option in the Page Setup sheet. The layout may not
be set correctly when this function is used with these Page Layout
  options.

o When using Scaling or the 2 Page per Sheet/4 Page per Sheet
functions, an error occurring from the difference between the
degree of scaling and resolution may cause lines and other
distortions to appear in the printout.

o Depending on the setting selected for Spooling at Host in the
Device Settings page, booklet printing results may vary in the
  following situations:
  - When Spooling at Host is disabled: The Output Size will be twice
the size of the Page Size specified in the Page Settings sheet.
For example, when A4 is selected as the Page Size, 4 A4 sized
images are output on an A3 size page.
  - When Automatic/Spooling at Host is enabled: The output will be
printed in the Output Size specified in the Page Settings sheet.
For example, when A4 is selected as the Output Size, 4 A5 size
images are output on an A4 size page.

o For some applications, when using functions such as Scaling, N
Pages per Sheet, and Edging, output with graphics data may diverge
from the original. If this occurs, under Spooling at Host in the
  Device Settings sheet, select Disable.

o When Spooling at Host is enabled in the Device Settings sheet, do
not change the printer resolution settings while printing in the
background with Microsoft Word 98. Doing so may cause Windows to
  operate erratically.

o When printing with the Adobe Acrobat Reader with Spooling at Host
enabled in the Device Settings sheet, the print fonts may change.
If this occurs, disable Spooling at Host, and then print.

o When using Microsoft Excel, all sheet data may not be delivered
to a Mail Box if several sheets are sent simultaneously. If
this occurs, send the sheets to the Mail Box one by one.

o When using Microsoft Excel to print multiple copies with the
Collate check box selected, or when printing an entire workbook
with different settings on each sheet, the printer may not be
able to perform Staple/Offset printing, N-up printing, or Print
on Both Sides. Also, if you execute a secured or job accounting
print job, several confirmation dialog boxes may be displayed.

o If Collate is selected in the application for a multiple copy
print job, the staple and collate settings in the printer
driver may not execute correctly. If this occurs, remove the
multiple copy settings in the software application, select "Collate
on" in the Finishing page, and select Sort or Staple to execute the
  print job correctly.

o Some printers connected as local printers to a computer may not
execute print jobs correctly if the bi-directional support is
disabled. In the Printer Properties sheet, click the Details tab,
click the Spool Settings button, and then select "Enable bi-
  directional support for this printer."

o If the Collate feature in Adobe PageMaker is selected, the Collate
setting in the printer driver is ignored.

o When Novell Client for Windows NT/2000 Ver. 4.71 is used in a
NetWare environment, in the Port page of the Printers folder, the
Port selection and display may not display correctly or be
available for selection. However, print jobs will execute normally.

o When feeding pre-printed covers during booklet printing, if the
covers in reverse, remove the covers from the inverter and reverse
  their position.

o With NetSpot Suite and NetSpot Suite Service installed with a USB
printer in use, do not use the stand-by mode. The stand-by mode can
be set in the Control Panel (Start> Settings> Control Panel> Power
  Options).

o The positions for saddle-stitching may not align correctly during
booklet printing if Finishing> Print With Mixed Paper Sizes/
Orientations is checked on. In this case execute Device Settings>
Spooling at Host then select Auto or Disabled.

o If you are using a printer model that does not support the overlay
device registration function, do not attempt to register forms on
  the device.

o If you are using a color printer installed from the Printers folder
with the Add Printer icon, and if you change a color profile or add
a new profile, the system may switch automatically to ICM (Image
Color Matching) on the host side. (Normally, the default is set
  Quality> Color Settings> ICM Method> ICM Disabled.)

o If you are using Microsoft Excel, if you select All Books in the
Print dialog box, execute the print job with the first sheet
selected. If you execute the print job with the second sheet
selected, the settings (staple, sort, etc.) on the Finishing sheet
  are ignored.

o When Raster Mode is selected (Quality> Print Details> Graphics
Mode> Raster Mode), the printout may be distorted. In this case,
correct output may be possible by selecting EMF Spooling.
-When a driver profile for Ver. 4.90 or earlier is imported.
-When a certain software application (i.e. Microsoft Excel) is used.
-When the driver for Ver. 4.90 or earlier is updated by the
   installer.

o For Adobe Illustrator 8.0 or later, selecting Bitmap Print off
causes longer print times or blurring of thin lines and minute
text. To avoid such output results, select Bitmap Print on.

===== Limitations of Specific Printer Models =====

o LBP-730 Ver. R.105
When Landscape Orientation is used for 4 Pages per Sheet, the actual
printout result will be Portrait Orientation rotated 90 degrees
clockwise. In order to check the printer version, execute Status
Printing.

o LBP-930EX
With the LBP-930EX, when Stack Bypass (Multi-purpose Tray) is
selected as the Paper Source in Paper Selection, stapling may not
be possible.

o LBP-1810/1610/910/880/850/840
When printing with the Custom Paper Size, available sizes vary
depending on where the paper is fed, such as Bypass (Multi-purpose
Tray) or optional 500 Sheet Cassette. Print from a paper source that
can feed the Custom Paper Size. With the 500 Sheet Cassette, use a
Custom Size Paper wider and longer than 210.0mm, and with a length
longer than the width. Refer to the Help for more information.

o GP605-255
When Rotate is selected on the Finishing page, make sure that the
Paper Name item is deselected on the Feed Page.

o iR Series
- When print data are saved to the mailbox and Finishing is turned
off, with some iR Series printers the number of copies may not
display correctly on the printer operation panel. When print data
is saved to the mailbox, make sure that Finishing is set to a
  setting other than off.
- When print data are saved to the mailbox with some iR Series
printers, some printer operations, such as the output selections (1-
Sided/2-Sided), the output tray selection, page layout, scaling,
and so on, may not display correctly on the printer operation
panel. However, the print jobs will execute correctly.
- When print data are saved to the mailbox in Landscape orientation
with some iR Series printers, the actual staple position may not
match the position specified in the printer driver. Also, if the
staple position is specified on the printer operation panel for
print data saved to the mailbox in Landscape orientation, the
actual staple position may be higher or lower than the position
  specified in the printer driver.

o iR6000/5000
The most recent version of this printer driver is required in order
to use the following features. Also, the layout positions may be
slightly different for execution of Page Layout (2 Pages per Sheet, 4
Pages per Sheet)- Matching paper sizes (Finishing> Print With Mixed
Paper Sizes/Orientations)- CFR-M1 optional fonts (Configuration> Font
Setting> Optional Font)

o iRC3200/C3200N
- The color tone of the output may differ slightly between the
form and document files. This may be caused by difference in the
  Matching Mode settings (Quality> Color/Grayscale Settings>
Matching> Matching Mode) between the form and the document files.
- When printing with Expand Print Region (Print Finishing> Finishing
Details> Expand Print Region and Print) selected, some printed
output may be missing around the edge. In this case, clear the
  Expand Print Region check box.
